An Approval Workflow is a defined sequence of decision steps for an access request or governance action. Approvers may include a manager, application owner, entitlement owner, data owner, risk owner or compliance team, depending on context.
Good workflows are risk-based, time-bound, resistant to self-approval and designed to avoid rubber-stamping. Low-risk standard access can often be automated, while high-risk access receives additional scrutiny.
