Federated identity is an arrangement in which one domain relies on identity and authentication information asserted by a trusted identity provider in another domain. Federation enables access to multiple services without each service independently managing the user's primary credentials.
IGA governs lifecycle, eligibility, attributes and access assignments around federation; protocols such as SAML and OpenID Connect carry assertions or claims.
