Identity Provider (IdP)

An identity provider (IdP) is a system that authenticates a subject and provides identity information to a relying application or service.

An identity provider (IdP) is a system that authenticates a subject and provides identity information to a relying application or service. It may issue SAML assertions, OpenID Connect ID tokens or other trusted assertions.

An IdP enables federation and SSO, while IGA governs identity lifecycle, group or role assignments and continuing eligibility for the applications reached through the IdP.
