A privilege is an authorized right to perform an action. Privileges range from ordinary read access to security-sensitive capabilities such as changing configurations, managing identities, exporting data or approving transactions.
An entitlement is the assignable representation of a right in a system; “privilege” emphasizes what the holder is allowed to do. High-impact privileges require stronger governance.
