A role hierarchy is a structure in which one role inherits permissions from another. A senior role may inherit a base role and add further access, or business roles may contain reusable technical roles.
Hierarchies reduce duplication but can obscure effective access. IGA should make inheritance visible, limit unnecessary depth and evaluate separation-of-duties risk across inherited permissions.
