Source of Truth

A source of truth is the system designated as authoritative for a defined identity record or attribute.

A source of truth is the system designated as authoritative for a defined identity record or attribute. HR may be authoritative for employment status, a vendor system for contract end date and an application registry for a workload owner.

Authority should be defined at field level. Calling one system “the source of truth” for all identity data can conceal conflicts and create unsafe lifecycle decisions.
